Guide to Restoring Shine to Your Silver
Method 1: Aluminium Foil + Salt + Hot Water (Personally tested and effective!)
Materials needed: A small piece of aluminium foil, 1 spoon of table salt, a bowl of hot water, a heat-resistant container (glass or ceramic bowl), and a soft towel.
Cleaning Steps:
1. Line the container: Place aluminium foil at the bottom of the container with the shiny side facing up.
2. Place the silver jewellery: Put the silver pieces onto the foil, ensuring they are in direct contact with it.
3. Add salt: Sprinkle about 1 spoon of salt.
4. Pour hot water: Pour in hot water until the silver jewellery is fully submerged.
5. Let it react: Leave it for 3–5 minutes to allow the electrochemical reaction to occur naturally.
6. Rinse: Remove the silver jewellery and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
7. Dry & polish: Wipe dry with a towel or gently polish with a silver cloth to restore shine. ✨
💡 How it works:
The black tarnish on silver is mostly silver sulfide (Ag₂S). The combination of aluminium foil, salt water, and hot water creates a displacement reaction that reduces the silver sulfide back to pure silver, restoring its brightness.
⚠️ Notes:
1. Avoid using this method too frequently; once every 1–2 months is sufficient.
2. Not suitable for plated or gemstone-set jewellery.
3. For heavily oxidised silver, consider using professional silver cleaning paste or sending it for professional polishing.
Method 2: Silver Polishing Cloth
A polishing cloth is included with every order for easy daily maintenance!
✔ No water needed — simply rub the silver directly.
✔ Instantly restores shine and removes light tarnish.
✔ Ideal for mild oxidised or dullness on fine silver jewellery.
⚠️ Notes:
✧ This method is not suitable for plated or gemstone-set jewellery, as rubbing may scratch the surface or loosen settings.
✧ Light polishing every 2 weeks is recommended to maintain shine (not recommended for daily use).
✧ Silver polishing cloths contain cleaning agents and should not be washed with water.
✧ One cloth can be reused many times until it becomes fully black or loses effectiveness.
✧ Fold it after use and store it in a sealed bag away from light.
✧ The polishing cloth is gentle and will not damage the silver itself, but avoid applying excessive force.
If stubborn tarnish cannot be removed with the cloth, consider:
1. Aluminium Foil + Salt + Hot Water method (Method 1)
2. Professional cleaning: Jewellers use ultrasonic cleaning or specialised solutions for deeper cleaning.
银饰清洗方法
『方法一：铝箔纸+盐+热水（亲测有效！）』
所需材料：一小块铝箔纸（Aluminium Foil）、一勺食盐、一碗热水、一个耐热容器（玻璃碗/陶瓷碗）、柔软毛巾。
清洗步骤：
1. 铺底：用铝箔纸铺在容器底部，亮面朝上。
2. 放入银饰：将需要清洗的银饰放在铝箔纸上，确保银饰接触到铝箔纸。
3. 加盐：撒入约1勺食盐。
4. 倒入热水：倒入热水，没过银饰。
5. 等待反应：静置 3～5 分钟，让电化学反应自动进行。
6. 取出冲洗：取出银饰后用清水冲洗干净。
7. 擦干抛亮：用毛巾擦干或用银布轻轻擦拭，恢复光泽✨
💡 原理小知识：
银饰氧化发黑多是因硫化银（Ag₂S）生成。铝箔 + 盐水 + 热水的组合会发生置换反应，把黑色硫化层“还原”成银本体，恢复亮白！
⚠️ 小提醒：
1. 不建议频繁使用此法，每1–2个月一次即可。
2. 不适合电镀、镶嵌类饰品。
3. 如果银饰较重度氧化，建议使用专业银饰清洁膏或送店保养。
『方法二：擦银布』

✔ 适合日常轻微发黄、暗沉的足银饰品。
⚠️ 小提醒：
✧ 此方法不适用于电镀或镶嵌类银饰，以免擦伤表面或损坏镶嵌处。
✧ 建议定期轻擦，每2周轻擦一次，保持银饰亮泽如新（不建议每天擦）。
✧ 擦银布是专用含清洁成分的银布，不能水洗！
✧ 一张布可重复使用多次，直到整个布面发黑、无效才需更换。
✧ 使用后折好、放回密封袋中避光保存。
✧ 擦银布设计温和，不会伤害银饰本体，但不建议过度用力。
如果擦银布无法完全去除顽固氧化，建议用：
1. 铝箔纸 + 盐 + 热水法（方法一）
2. 送专业店清洗：他们使用超声波、药水清洗更彻底。
