The「Pure Silver」Hallmark

Stamping「Pure Silver 999.9」 would better reflect its purity and provide greater reassurance. So why do some 999.9 fine silver bangles only carry the simple hallmark「Pure Silver」?
This is actually very common in the silver jewellery industry, and the reasons include the following:
1. The Standard Definition of「Pure Silver」
The term「Pure Silver」itself indicates a pure silver content of 99% or above. According to international standards, any silver purity that reaches or exceeds 99% can be stamped as「Pure Silver」. Therefore, even if the actual purity is higher (such as 99.9% or 99.99%), it can still be marked as「Pure Silver」as long as it meets the requirement.
2. Common Practice Among Factories and Brands
Many factories or brands use「Pure Silver」as a universal hallmark to maintain consistency in production or meet customer expectations. For example, some well-known brands with stricter testing requirements may require all pieces, especially those with specific craftsmanship or added pendants to be stamped「Pure Silver」. This does not indicate lower purity; rather, it is a stricter, standardised practice.
3. Impact of Craftsmanship (e.g., Welding)
Certain designs require welding during production. Welding involves the use of solder, so the final piece is often uniformly stamped「Pure Silver」. This is a standard part of the crafting process and does not affect the actual purity of the silver.
4. Certificates Must Match the Physical Hallmark
Even if the actual purity reaches 99.9% or 99.99%, if the bangle is stamped「Pure Silver」, the certification report must also state「Pure Silver」only. This is an industry requirement to ensure consistency.

A Practical Truth About Hallmarks

Hallmarks can be easily imitated and do not fully represent purity on their own. What truly matters is choosing a trustworthy seller. ❤️ We work with several carefully selected and personally inspected factories. All our fine silver jewellery is made with 99% or higher silver purity. Whether the hallmark reads「Pure Silver」「Pure Silver 990」「Pure Silver 999」or「Pure Silver 999.9」 The quality and purity are consistently reliable.
